A bit about the Bay Leaf 🍃

These are called “Bay leaves” aka Laurus Nobilis Essential oil.
Many people add bay leaves to foods especially jollof rice (Nigerian), red meat and poultry. Do you know why bay leaves are added to food?
To add flavor to the food right?! 🍃

Do you know that if you boil some bay leaves in a glass of water and taste it, it will have no flavor?

So why would one add this then?
The addition of bay leaves to meat converts triglycerides to monounsaturated fats.

Check this out!
Cut chicken in half and cook each half in a pan and place a bay leaf one one half, and the other half without a bay leaf. Observe the amount of fat in both pans.

🍃Drinking a cup of boiled bay leaves twice a day breaks kidney stones and cures infections.

Change doesn’t have to hurt if you’re flexible.

Starting anything new can be daunting, scary, overwhelming. I know the feeling! It can also be extremely rewarding, enjoyable and amazing. I choose to think the latter.
When I first began working out after being away from it for so long, I was excited but really scared. The self doubt creeps and your not sure you want to get out of that comfortable place you’ve been hiding in for so long.


We are capable of changing anxious thoughts into thoughts of excitement. #5secondrule literally count backwards from 5 and #justdoit. It’s as simple as changing your thoughts.
Think about it! You’re already at NO! So anything you start doing is only going to improve your life in some way. You have NOTHING to lose and everything to gain!

Change doesn’t have to hurt if your flexible.

Did you know we make over 35,000 decisions a day 🤯 it’s true! If your capable of that, girls and guys! Your capable of anything. JUST START! It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to get done. One thing at a time.

How I met my Husband !

✨Fun fact! ✨

I met my husband at the gym 17 years ago. I had just come out of a very long relationship (and by long I mean 10 years!) and I wasn’t looking for anything serious. Sean was so shy, and cute so how could a girl resist!? We went on a few dates and we quickly fell in love. 

I asked Sean what he remembers most from that time. He said….

“I was really nervous around you. It was the first time I was dating someone and being conscious about my sobriety. I didn’t want to mess it up because I didn’t think I would have another chance ……..and you were soooooo pretty!”

What followed in the next 10 years was a complete roller coaster. I will say I’m grateful for it all because it has changed our lives for the better.  Even now, when we are in the gym, and he looks over at me with that smile, I melt and still feel all the feels 😍 He loves to sneak in some kisses too! Our first date was at East Side Mario’s. It took him 3 days and lots of dropped hints to finally ask me out to dinner. I remember how nervous he was. He didn’t say much because he was so shy, but I liked that about him. His cell phone rang and I told him to answer it. It was his Sister. She asked what he was doing and he told her he was on a date ‘with the girl, from the gym.’ She gave him shit for answering his phone while on a date! He was so embarrassed. His response is how I also knew he had been talking about me before we actually had our first date. He drove me home after dinner. I invited him in and he said “My Dad told me never to go in on the first date” to which I replied “so there’s going to be a second?” to which he replied “yes I’d like that!” I melted!

On our 4th wedding anniversary, we decided to go back to East Side Mario’s for dinner because they were tearing down the building soon and rebuilding the restaurant in a new location. It was a date I will never forget because we ended up sitting at the exact same booth….and get this….we had the exact same waitress!!! We told her our story and we ask thought that was so incredible!

This November we will celebrate out 16 year Wedding Anniversary. We have lots to celebrate and be grateful for.

Gratitude Can Change The World!

Having an attitude of gratitude changes the molecular structure of the brain and makes us healthier and happier. When you feel happiness, the central nervous system is affected. You are more peaceful, less reactive and less resistant. Now that’s a really cool way of taking care of your well-being.

Gratitude unshackles us from toxic emotions. It helps even if you don’t share it. Practicing Gratitude’s benefits take time & practice. You might not feel it right away. Gratitude also has lasting effects on the brain.

Here are 3 simple things you can do each day to practice gratitude, empathy & compassion to make your inner & outer world more peaceful. Because it starts with self.

3. Complaint free in my words & in my head.

I’ve started waking up one hour earlier in my day to fit the first two in. I have noticed I feel better, happier, less stress and having more restful sleep.

I like to do these in the morning because I’m more alert and I can focus without interruption. It starts my day off in a good way.

With the gratitude part, I will find 5 things I’m grateful for in the last 24 hours and 2 reasons I’m grateful for each. That way I’m really looking for things to be grateful for each day. It gives everything more meaning and I am much more intentional.

I have a few devotionals that I enjoy reading each day that help me learn more about the good word and how to live in all His glory. I also say many prayers through the day for people I know who are struggling or if I find I have a moment where I need Gods strength.

Applying Essential Oils with intention also helps me feel grounded, happy and focused. Some of my favourites are Believe, Abundance, Lavender, Sacred Frankincense, Valor, Peace & Calming.

One of my favourite oil routines that I do at least once a day, sometimes more as I feel I need it, is my Happy Day Protocol.

Going Complaint free for one week is something my husband I began as a challenge to one another. Cutting out gossip or criticism is also part of this. We then started challenging our friends. The feedback has been over whelming !!! So many people have noticed a huge change in how much better they feel. Most of us don’t even realize how much we actually complain everyday. I know I didn’t. It wasn’t so much in my spoken words, but more about how much I was doing in my head!

I’m not gonna lie, I have found the complaint free challenge challenging. But what I know is becoming aware, committing to making the effort and teaching others to do this with us has definitely impacted me in such a profound way! In such a great way!

It is said it takes 30 Days to form a habit & 90 days for it to become a lifestyle. It starts with small steps and working at it everyday. Practice these simple things and you will only get better!

When I catch myself complaining, I immediately change my thoughts to find the good in that moment or situation. Then I think of something I’m grateful for. It changes my mindset immediately. Remember our thoughts become our words and our words become our actions.

Take care of yourself first.

Take care of yourself first because you can’t pour from an empty cup!

My mother was & still is all about taking care of everyone else needs and then her own.  It’s what she enjoys doing.  Her generation basically had the belief to make sure your husband and children have all they need and that will be enough for you.

As I grew up I always noticed my Mom doing these little things.  That’s probably what her mother did too.  For example:: Taking the burnt piece of toast, the smallest piece of cake, being the last one to sit down in front of the tv with the rest of the family because the dishes weren’t going to wash themselves.  Being the last one to go to bed after doing a quick tidy around the house, driving and picking up my brother and me from our friends houses, even though she had so much to do herself…and on the list goes on.

Find Beauty in the Chaos

I have felt so much frustration lately.  Maybe it’s the change in weather here in Ontario.  Summer has left and Jack frost is making his way in.  I’m not a fan of the cold.  Why in the world did my Grandparents immigrate to such a cold country?!  I often feel I should be on a beach somewhere, soaking up the sun and heat.  Maybe the frustration I have felt  is from the constant mess in my home that comes with having 4 children, a dog and the home renovations that seem to be taking way too long.

But last night as I stood in my kitchen and watched the ‘chaos‘ that was happening in my home, I felt this overwhelming sense of GrateFULLness.  I am looking at this all wrong, I thought to myself.  I’m complaining about this chaos instead of embracing it.  At that moment I had an “AHA” moment.  You know that moment….that if you don’t stop to really notice it, it will disappear forever.

How to become a morning person

Do you dread the mornings?  Do you stay up late, when the house is quiet and your family is asleep, so you can get some work done and be more productive?  I used to do this too!  I thought I was being more productive if I stayed up late.

WAS I EVER WRONG!!!!

By nature I am a night hawk.  My entire family consists of night hawks.  It became habit to stay up until 1 or 2 am and then wake up around 7am.  I’d wake up groggy, tired, grumpy and have to drag my butt out of bed.

I love my warm cozy bed just as much as the next girl.  The only difference is now, I have slightly adjusted when I hit that pillow and I wake up feeling great!!!

When I started fitness training a couple of years ago, I decided to start waking up early….and I mean early….we are talking 4:00 am early so that I could begin training at 6am.  I thought I was crazy!  My friends thought I was crazy.  You know what, it ended up being one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Failure makes you!

Fall on your Face!  Fail.  Fail Spectacularly.  Because when you fail, you learn.

“You don’t make mistakes, mistakes make you!”  

Mistakes make you stronger.  They make you smarter.  They make you more self-reliant.  This is when you learn who you are and you learn the greatest life lessons.  It is a gift that is given to you.  God does not give you anything that he knows you cannot handle.  He doesn’t ask if it’s ok to put you through these tough times, sometimes life altering moments.  He doesn’t ask….is it ok that I put you through these tough times so that you can have all the things you want when it’s over.  He just does it.  The rest is up to you!

When you push through and ask for help, and do the best you can….that is when so much abundance pours into your life.  That my friends, is when life becomes truly amazing.  We were designed for greatness.  You deserve everything your heart desires.  You deserve everything you want.

It all begins in your mind and ends in your mind.  What you give power to, has power over you, if you allow it.

The 2 most powerful words you say!

Have you ever said I am tired?  I am getting old?  I am looking old?

Of course you have.  I think we all have.  Did you know that what you say after those two small words ‘I am’,  are more powerful than you may even realize!

Whatever you say after those 2 teeny tiny words become the truth.

You can consciously change the way you speak and think about the intention behind your words.  If you find yourself saying these things, I am old, I am tired, you can change that.  Immediately say I am beautiful, I am energetic, I am looking good!  Eventually, you will automatically speak and think those positive affirmations without giving it a second thought.

When you say ‘I am’, say it with conviction.  Truly believe what you are saying.  You may struggle to believe the things you are saying are true, or will come true.  Say it like you
truly mean it.
